While I was reading up about the wonders of the noble, nutritious beet, I found a Wikipedia article about beeturia. Apparently some people don't break down betalain pigments, and they pass right through. Sometimes as a deeply alarming blood red color.

I am so glad I read that before it became an issue. As hilarious as a trip to the hospital would have been in retrospect, I can't afford to pay out of pocket for that kind of comedy gold.
