* For over a week it's been connectivity and other computer problems. The one Sunday night was caused by the Emperor having unplugged the laptop, causing the things to go slower and slower and slower. I rebooted. I deleted files. Bonus, he'd unplugged it at both ends so plugging it back in after he banged it loose at the point of connection to the laptop didn't solve it.
I've been doing a lot of rewatches since last Autumn, mostly Korean horror, because I find Korean horror soothing to the nerves for a whole list of reasons. I've also been rewatching queer things. I'd been meaning to rewatch Sense8. Last night I started the rewatch, and oh was it the right thing to pick.
In other news, a couple of weeks ago, my ancient beta fish's tank sprang a leak. It took a little while to work out that was what was going on because reasons. So I finished breaking down the tank that the older long deceased beta was living in, a thing I wasn't up to because of the whole shoulder deterioration, replacement and recovery. I grabbed a clean empty tank so I could start cycling the water, while I worked on getting everything else clean. Got the dirt heat sterilized. Everything clean. Fish furniture in the cycling tank.
It was at this point I discovered elderly beta fish had fallen ill, likely because the leak meant deterioration in tank conditions, a thing I hoped transfering to the new tank would prevent. (The old tank doesn't hold water above a certain level. The leak is invisible. I had to put a lot of my spoons into cleaning the thother tank. This fish is about twice as old as the older fish get in the wild. I've had one pass three times as old. They usually just wind down to a stop about halfway between twice and three times normal life span.)
I didn't want to move him into the tank I'd just set up, because I figure odds are not great he'll survive an infection at that age, and saving and processing aquarium dirt it a pain in the ass. I also wasn't having much luck treating him in the leacky tank. It dawned on me the tank his neighbor had lived in is now clean, but doesn't have dirt yet. It also occured to me I had most of a tank's worth of already cycled clean water.
I was worried the shock of moving him would kill him, but it's day two and he's still quite ill, but looks a bit improved. When I first put him in, he had enough energy to poke around his hides, which I moved along with his little heater from the leaky tank. I plan to keep bailing and medicating as long as he lasts or until he recovers (Unlikely), but I feel better knowing he's getting the best care I can reasonably give him.
I've sterilized the old dirt. If he survives, I'll pop some back in with a plant from one the bigger tanks. If he doesn't, I'll know I did my best, and clean up will be easier.
Really we need a general restock with the big tanks, but we are drowning financially. Squirrel hasn't caught up from the whole being cheated mess followed by the Strike. My housing bill doesn't go back down until Autumn. The fish in the living room are getting embarrassingly inbred. Ah well.
* Tuesday was terrible. I had a couple errands needing running, and decided to do them before bed when it was cooler. My feet were already swollen and walking on them was like knives, but I was correct. I secured honey for tea, dropped off books at the library, etc., then looped back. I was heading from the grocery with the good, cheap honey to the library drop box when I remembered the guy from the city was coming at 10AM. Luckily it was 8:20ish, as I'd planned my trip so as to be there when the grocery store opened.
Unluckily, all of my bad joints were screaming at me by then and the balloon knife feet and the headache I started out with were no better by the time I got home. I filled the in between time with food, a lung treatment, laundry, doing up a pill tray, paying a bill.
I was exhausted and just at the end of my rope pain resistance wise.
It was at this point I discovered the City likely wasn't going to help us and I had to hobble about painfully after him trying to make a case for the wiring situation being dangerous enough to justify them helping for about an hour- an hour and a half depending on if you count the bits where squirrel took over or not. It was A Lot.
He said he'd put us up for Bid as the deadline was Wednesday and that he'd try making a case to his boss.
So he may be back today (Wednesday). Or he may call. We may be fucked or not. IDK.
* The man from the city did come Wednesday. He dropped off papers to do with the bidding process and personally fixed all the interior doorknobs. O.o We still don't know if we are getting the deeper problems fixed. The electricity, the ventilation, the clothes washer, etc.. That depends on if we get any bidders from contractor. The man from the city is not sanguine as our contract it comparatively small.
The downside of this is I only got three hours of sleep in two chunks, what with us needing to do errands while the library was still open, said library's hours being curtailed because of Trump's war on knowledge. Our local library system is robust. It will survive, even if with shorter hours. It's the rural libraries I worry about, the ones in small towns in red counties and in red states. We're sapphire blue in this county and they will find money somewhere to keep essential services going like the healthcare system, the library, mass transit, the affordable housing expansion program they've partnered with the state to make happen. Our system was already under stress here, as do many people want to live here, but the priories are mostly correct in my city, my county, my state which have all been under democratic majority rule for decades.
Things will be tough here are some things lost, but we can hold out a lot longer than most places if we don't get federal military occupation or nightmare federal legislation that really ends everything.
I suspect Seattle will be high on the list of places Comb-over Caligula wants military occupation for and that will be horrific as the cops there are notoriously bad and virulently pro-fascist over through of democracy. I doubt Orange Julius Caesar or that little Neo-NAZI ghoul, Stephen Miller, have heard of us yet, so we've a bit of time left.
If we lose in Los Angeles, if permanent military occupation becomes a forever thing, yeah, we're fucked. All of us are fucked. If that happens, we will fall too. My hope is the young people will have time to make it across the border if that happens and that Canada will protect them. I figure the time they ought to flee is when they invade Seattle.
Let us hope we win in California. Let us hope we can turn the tide.
Anyway, I'm still deep in the extreme chronic pain incident that started Monday; I am exhausted; I am waiting to see if I am actually sick with something or if it's the whole no one is letting me sleep/extreme pain/allergies thing. There's a lot of construction and landscaping going on in my complex and I keep having to go outside and hobble about in the heat and floating plant jizz.
I forced myself to stay up until after dinner, when the Millennials went home, but went to bed right after. I've been trying to keep up posts on L.A. and action item things, but I simply didn't have enough functional hours Wednesday to accomplish much in them. I am sorry. I keep needing to lie down.
* As exhausting as this week was, next week will likely be worse.
We are getting invaded three times this week. Two are contractor/electrician teams deciding about bids for renovation, which is a very good sign. it means people are willing to take the job even though it's comparatively small.
One is the dreaded fire system upgrade at an unknown time for an unknown length, and an unknown destructiveness level. I shall be sleeping in my clothes. Sigh.

A budget is a moral document. It says what a society's priorities are.
Not all deficit is bad. Deficit to invest in things like education or health or infrastructure is good for obvious reasons. This deficit is entirely about sucking money out of the economy and into billionaire bank accounts. It gives nothing back; it only harms.

* For over a week it's been connectivity and other computer problems. The one Sunday night was caused by the Emperor having unplugged the laptop, causing the things to go slower and slower and slower. I rebooted. I deleted files. Bonus, he'd unplugged it at both ends so plugging it back in after he banged it loose at the point of connection to the laptop didn't solve it.
I've been doing a lot of rewatches since last Autumn, mostly Korean horror, because I find Korean horror soothing to the nerves for a whole list of reasons. I've also been rewatching queer things. I'd been meaning to rewatch Sense8. Last night I started the rewatch, and oh was it the right thing to pick.
In other news, a couple of weeks ago, my ancient beta fish's tank sprang a leak. It took a little while to work out that was what was going on because reasons. So I finished breaking down the tank that the older long deceased beta was living in, a thing I wasn't up to because of the whole shoulder deterioration, replacement and recovery. I grabbed a clean empty tank so I could start cycling the water, while I worked on getting everything else clean. Got the dirt heat sterilized. Everything clean. Fish furniture in the cycling tank.
It was at this point I discovered elderly beta fish had fallen ill, likely because the leak meant deterioration in tank conditions, a thing I hoped transfering to the new tank would prevent. (The old tank doesn't hold water above a certain level. The leak is invisible. I had to put a lot of my spoons into cleaning the thother tank. This fish is about twice as old as the older fish get in the wild. I've had one pass three times as old. They usually just wind down to a stop about halfway between twice and three times normal life span.)
I didn't want to move him into the tank I'd just set up, because I figure odds are not great he'll survive an infection at that age, and saving and processing aquarium dirt it a pain in the ass. I also wasn't having much luck treating him in the leacky tank. It dawned on me the tank his neighbor had lived in is now clean, but doesn't have dirt yet. It also occured to me I had most of a tank's worth of already cycled clean water.
I was worried the shock of moving him would kill him, but it's day two and he's still quite ill, but looks a bit improved. When I first put him in, he had enough energy to poke around his hides, which I moved along with his little heater from the leaky tank. I plan to keep bailing and medicating as long as he lasts or until he recovers (Unlikely), but I feel better knowing he's getting the best care I can reasonably give him.
I've sterilized the old dirt. If he survives, I'll pop some back in with a plant from one the bigger tanks. If he doesn't, I'll know I did my best, and clean up will be easier.
Really we need a general restock with the big tanks, but we are drowning financially. Squirrel hasn't caught up from the whole being cheated mess followed by the Strike. My housing bill doesn't go back down until Autumn. The fish in the living room are getting embarrassingly inbred. Ah well.
* Tuesday was terrible. I had a couple errands needing running, and decided to do them before bed when it was cooler. My feet were already swollen and walking on them was like knives, but I was correct. I secured honey for tea, dropped off books at the library, etc., then looped back. I was heading from the grocery with the good, cheap honey to the library drop box when I remembered the guy from the city was coming at 10AM. Luckily it was 8:20ish, as I'd planned my trip so as to be there when the grocery store opened.
Unluckily, all of my bad joints were screaming at me by then and the balloon knife feet and the headache I started out with were no better by the time I got home. I filled the in between time with food, a lung treatment, laundry, doing up a pill tray, paying a bill.
I was exhausted and just at the end of my rope pain resistance wise.
It was at this point I discovered the City likely wasn't going to help us and I had to hobble about painfully after him trying to make a case for the wiring situation being dangerous enough to justify them helping for about an hour- an hour and a half depending on if you count the bits where squirrel took over or not. It was A Lot.
He said he'd put us up for Bid as the deadline was Wednesday and that he'd try making a case to his boss.
So he may be back today (Wednesday). Or he may call. We may be fucked or not. IDK.
* The man from the city did come Wednesday. He dropped off papers to do with the bidding process and personally fixed all the interior doorknobs. O.o We still don't know if we are getting the deeper problems fixed. The electricity, the ventilation, the clothes washer, etc.. That depends on if we get any bidders from contractor. The man from the city is not sanguine as our contract it comparatively small.
The downside of this is I only got three hours of sleep in two chunks, what with us needing to do errands while the library was still open, said library's hours being curtailed because of Trump's war on knowledge. Our local library system is robust. It will survive, even if with shorter hours. It's the rural libraries I worry about, the ones in small towns in red counties and in red states. We're sapphire blue in this county and they will find money somewhere to keep essential services going like the healthcare system, the library, mass transit, the affordable housing expansion program they've partnered with the state to make happen. Our system was already under stress here, as do many people want to live here, but the priories are mostly correct in my city, my county, my state which have all been under democratic majority rule for decades.
Things will be tough here are some things lost, but we can hold out a lot longer than most places if we don't get federal military occupation or nightmare federal legislation that really ends everything.
I suspect Seattle will be high on the list of places Comb-over Caligula wants military occupation for and that will be horrific as the cops there are notoriously bad and virulently pro-fascist over through of democracy. I doubt Orange Julius Caesar or that little Neo-NAZI ghoul, Stephen Miller, have heard of us yet, so we've a bit of time left.
If we lose in Los Angeles, if permanent military occupation becomes a forever thing, yeah, we're fucked. All of us are fucked. If that happens, we will fall too. My hope is the young people will have time to make it across the border if that happens and that Canada will protect them. I figure the time they ought to flee is when they invade Seattle.
Let us hope we win in California. Let us hope we can turn the tide.
Anyway, I'm still deep in the extreme chronic pain incident that started Monday; I am exhausted; I am waiting to see if I am actually sick with something or if it's the whole no one is letting me sleep/extreme pain/allergies thing. There's a lot of construction and landscaping going on in my complex and I keep having to go outside and hobble about in the heat and floating plant jizz.
I forced myself to stay up until after dinner, when the Millennials went home, but went to bed right after. I've been trying to keep up posts on L.A. and action item things, but I simply didn't have enough functional hours Wednesday to accomplish much in them. I am sorry. I keep needing to lie down.

We are getting invaded three times this week. Two are contractor/electrician teams deciding about bids for renovation, which is a very good sign. it means people are willing to take the job even though it's comparatively small.
One is the dreaded fire system upgrade at an unknown time for an unknown length, and an unknown destructiveness level. I shall be sleeping in my clothes. Sigh.

* Weird random thing I learned from a hottest '80's musician poll this week is that I have a LOT of intense feelings for better or worse about a whole bunch of artists and bands I literally think of less than once a year and occasionally haven't thought about in decades. (I knew I had opinions about ones I do think about on the regular either because I like them or because they have come out with shitty political opinions in the last couple decades. I did not know I had really big grudges against musicians I haven't thought about in thirty five years sometimes for stuff they did, sometimes because of associations that had nothing to do with them personally.) Me: Don't care what he looks like. He and his whole band are ASSHOLES. I wouldn't fuck him with someone else's dick! Also Me: Don't care what he looks like that music meant EVERYTHING once.
